China's Li Shifeng ended the dream run of Malaysian upstart Leong Jun Hao in the men's singles final of the BWF Kumamoto Masters in Japan on Sunday.
Seventh-seeded Li had been in three finals since winning the Hangzhou Asian Games in October, 2023 but finished runner-up each time.
World number 31 Leong, who was appearing in his first Super 500 final on badminton's world tour, barely troubled Li who cruised to a 21-10, 21-13 vicotry. Li, who was ranked ninth in the world, ended a season-long victory drought to claim his first BWF World Tour title of 2024.
In the women's doubles, China's Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning took the title by beating Japan's Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto 21-15, 21-5 in the final. The world No. 2 Chinese duo claimed their fifth title of the year.
