Canadian professor discusses challenges in heritage protection

Dr. Mario Santana Quintero is a renowned expert in the field of cultural heritage preservation. He is a professor at Carleton University in Ottowa, Canada, and a member of the Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS).

He was previously Secretary General of ICOMOS, the International Council on Monuments and Sites, an international organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of cultural heritage sites. He is also honorary president of CIPA, a committee under ICOMOS and ISPRS that specializes in the use of technology to document and protect historical sites.

Our reporter Yang Yan recently conducted an online interview with Professor Mario Santana Quintero, to discuss the challenges of protecting heritage sites in Canada, how advanced digital technologies can aid in conservation efforts, and the importance of involving young people through more interactive methods to foster a sense of connection and responsibility towards cultural heritage.
