A Monday clash resulted in the deaths of "eight soldiers" and "nine militants," an intelligence officer said on condition of anonymity. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility.
In a separate attack, "seven police officers were kidnapped," a senior police official told AFP, also speaking anonymously.
