In the 1950s, Chinese musician Wan Tongshu and his family ventured deep into northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region with a mission to preserve the art of Uygur Muqam, a unique melody. Overcoming countless challenges, he recorded and preserved the region's muqam music. Thanks to his tireless efforts, nowadays he is regarded as a pioneering figure who brought back Uygur Muqam from the verge of extinction.
