China and Brazil have elevated their ties to a China-Brazil community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet, according to a joint statement signed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasilia, Brazil, on Wednesday.

The two presidents agreed that over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Brazil relations have withstood the test of a changing international landscape and have always maintained a good and positive development momentum, the statement said.

In 1993, Brazil became the first developing country to establish a strategic partnership with China, and in 2012, Brazil became the first Latin American country to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

According to the statement, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Brazil relations are at their best in history and have become a model for the Global South and major developing countries.

Brazil reiterated the one-China principle that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. It noted that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China.

Brazil supports China in comprehensively promoting the construction of a strong country and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization, according to the statement.

The two sides agreed to designate 2026 as the China-Brazil Year of Culture to strengthen cultural ties and enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples, it said.
