FedEx has strengthened its logistics network in China by increasing the frequency of its Xiamen-U.S. cargo flights, the company announced on Thursday. The global express giant also launched a new international gateway operation facility in Xiamen on the same day.

The Xiamen-U.S. cargo route, which began in June 2024 with weekly flights, now operates five times a week – from Tuesday to Saturday – using Boeing 777 freighters. The route departs from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, makes a stop in Incheon, the Republic of Korea, before connecting to Anchorage, Alaska and Memphis, Tennessee. The enhanced schedule shortens transit times for parcels and heavy cargo from Fujian to North America by one to two days.

The newly launched Xiamen international gateway operation facility spans over 3,800 square meters and features fully automated sorting lines to improve efficiency. It primarily serves customers in Xiamen and the broader Fujian region, while also supporting exports from Changsha and Shantou. Integrating customs clearance and sorting processes, the facility enhances the efficiency of cross-border e-commerce and freight handling.

Robert Chu, vice president of FedEx China, emphasized the strategic importance of China in the company's global operations. He noted that the expanded flights and new facility strengthen FedEx's ability to connect second- and third-tier Chinese cities with global markets, supporting the growth of local export businesses.

Xiamen remains a critical hub for FedEx's operations in China, aligning with the company's strategic collaboration with the Xiamen government to boost international air logistics and cross-border e-commerce.

In addition to Xiamen, FedEx has also increased the frequency of its Qingdao-U.S. cargo flights and inaugurated its Qingdao international gateway facility earlier this month. These initiatives further enhance FedEx's logistics network, enabling local businesses to capitalize on global trade opportunities with more efficient intelligent logistics solutions.

Marking its 40th year of operations in China, FedEx operates six international logistics hubs across the country, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Qingdao and Xiamen. The company employs nearly 11,000 staff and operates over 300 international cargo flights weekly within the Chinese mainland.
