Spotted seals, nationally first-level protected animals, arrive at the Liao River Estuary in northeast China each year, giving birth between January and March. Their early return coincides with the later stage of migratory birds flying south for the winter, creating a vibrant scene at the wetland reserve where various protected species, including the spotted seal, white crane, red-crowned crane and black-headed gull, can be seen together. This lively environment reflects ecological improvement and successful wildlife conservation efforts.
