As the Chinese New Year of the Snake approaches in January, a snake-themed Bing Dwen Dwen – the mascot of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games – was officially launched for sale nationwide on November 22. The new products include plush toys, cushions, badges, keychains and more.
The design of Bing Dwen Dwen's snake version drew inspiration from the Chinese folk love story "The Legend of the White Snake." Their head decorations are based on the traditional Peking Opera costumes of Bai Suzhen and Xiao Qing, the two main characters in "The Legend of the White Snake," symbolizing best wishes for happiness.
