India ranks fifth on UNESCO's list of countries with the most World Heritage Sites. Many of these sites are in prominent and historic locations, but a burgeoning population, unchecked urbanization, pollution, and environmental change now pose an existential threat to these sites. While historians and activists say much has been done, immediate intervention is required to preserve the many sites that are currently overlooked. CGTN sat down with historian and author Swapna Liddle to find out more.
