The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theater Command on Thursday organized naval and air forces to conduct combat readiness patrols over the territorial waters and airspace of China's Huangyan Island in the South China Sea, according to a statement from the Command.
The patrols are aimed at resolutely safeguarding national sovereignty and security, and maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea region, the statement said.
