In northeastern China, heavy snow has swept across much of Heilongjiang Province. Authorities have put in place measures to mitigate disruption of basic utilities and goods and ensure safety. Zhou Yixin reports from the provincial capital of Harbin.

ZHOU YIXIN, Harbin, Heilongjiang Province "Across Heilongjiang Province, heavy snowfall has caused significant disruptions in northern cities like Heihe and Hegang, with record-breaking snow depths and severe traffic impacts. Here in Harbin, located in the southwestern part of the province, most of the snow has already been cleared. However, many areas remain on high alert due to plummeting temperatures and further weather challenges."

Since Monday, many areas in Heilongjiang have been facing blizzard-like conditions. The northwestern and northeastern parts of the province were hit hardest. Heihe recorded a 24-hour snowfall of over 26 millimeters, while Hegang experienced a snow depth of around 50 centimeters, both setting new local records. The snowfall has significantly disrupted transportation. City sanitation crews have been working non-stop, combining machinery and manual efforts to keep major roads clear.

YANG XINYU, Police Officer, Xinnan Traffic Police Detachment, Hegang Public Security Bureau, Heilongjiang Province "At 5 a.m., all members of our traffic police detachment arrived at their duty posts, carried out traffic diversion work, and provided traffic guidance for key sections of the city."

Local governments have ramped up efforts to ensure a stable supply and distribution of daily necessities.

CHEN SHUHUA, Merchant at Hegang agricultural wholesale market, Heilongjiang Province "After checking the weather forecast, we prepared the supply of vegetables in advance before the blizzard. Now the goods are quite sufficient, and the prices haven't increased much."

As the snow starts to weaken in most areas of Heilongjiang, residents are bracing for a sharp temperature drop. Heating and electricity companies have set up 24-hour emergency repair teams to ensure stable supplies. Despite the challenges posed by this extreme weather, the people and governments of Heilongjiang are demonstrating resilience and cooperation. Zhou Yixin, CGTN, Heilongjiang Province.
