China condemns new U.S. semiconductor export controls

CGTN

China on Monday strongly condemned the United States for imposing new restrictions on semiconductor exports to China.

A spokesperson for the country's Ministry of Commerce expressed deep concern over the latest measures, which further tighten controls on semiconductor manufacturing equipment and storage chips.

The spokesperson noted that the U.S. has added 136 Chinese entities to its export control entity list and has utilized its long-arm jurisdiction to interfere with China's trade with third parties. This constitutes economic coercion and unfair market practices, the spokesperson said.

The Chinese government argues that the semiconductor industry is highly globalized and that the U.S.' unilateral actions are severely hindering normal trade between countries, undermining market rules and the international economic order, and threatening the stability of global supply chains.

The spokesperson said that U.S. companies in the semiconductor industry will be adversely affected by these measures.

China has vowed to take the necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
