Grand parade highlights Dong New Year in Guizhou

The 2024 Dong New Year, the most significant and lively festival of the Dong ethnic group, took place from November 29 to December 3 in Liping County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Guizhou Province. A highlight of the celebration was the parade, which brought together thousands of participants from provincial regions such as Guizhou, Hunan, Guangxi, Hubei, and cities like Foshan to honor this vibrant tradition.

The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Dong people, fostering inter-ethnic exchange and unity while promoting the preservation and celebration of China's diverse traditions.

Dong New Year is a time for the Dong people to honor their ancestors, reunite with loved ones, and celebrate the harvest. Recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2011, it remains a cherished part of Dong cultural identity.

This year's celebration included captivating activities such as dragon and lion dances, the Dong New Year family reunion feast, cultural performances, and a fireworks show. Together, these events offered a vivid display of Dong customs while strengthening bonds among diverse communities.
