The 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is underway in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. According to the UNCCD, nearly 40 percent of global land is degraded, affecting 3.2 billion people, despite land providing 95 percent of the world's food.
