A work meeting designed to promote economic and cultural exchanges between both sides of the Taiwan Straits was held in Beijing on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), as well as other central Party and state departments and departments from southeast China's Fujian Province.

During an inspection tour to Fujian in October, Chinese President Xi Jinping underscored the need to take greater strides in blazing a new trail for integrated cross-Straits development, which has further clarified the goals and direction for exploring a new path for integrated cross-Straits development, Song Tao, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, noted at the meeting.

Song urged efforts to fully implement the spirit of President Xi's important instructions and the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, promote the high-quality development of a demonstration zone for integrated development across the Taiwan Straits, advance the peaceful and integrated development of cross-Straits relations, and promote the great cause of national reunification.

Zhao Chenxin, deputy head of the NDRC, said support should be given to Fujian in exploring new paths for integrated cross-Straits development, ensuring the implementation of policies for the construction of a demonstration zone for integrated development across the Taiwan Straits, and achieving new success in this regard.

Luo Dongchuan, deputy secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, and Wang Yongli, vice governor of Fujian, respectively introduced the construction of the demonstration zone. They said Fujian aims to build a demonstration model for the social, economic and emotional integration across the Taiwan Straits, establish a new pattern of comprehensive integration and development, and contribute to the great cause of national reunification.
