The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday said that it hopes the South Korean side will take effective measures to ensure the safety and security of Chinese nationals and institutions and said it has asked nationals to take safety precautions in relation to the short-lived imposition of martial law in South Korea overnight.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol declared the emergency martial law Tuesday night in a TV address and then revoked the order after lawmakers voted against the martial law in the early hours of Wednesday.
China's position on the Korean peninsula issue remains unchanged, the Foreign Ministry said.
