Countries in the Global South contribute 40 percent of the world's GDP yet their representation in global affairs is extremely lacking, said Ian Phillips, director of the News and Media Division of the UN Department of Global Communications, at the 12th Global Video Media Forum held in Quanzhou, southeast China's Fujian Province, on Tuesday. He said this is not just a statistical figure but a call for action. CGTN host Tian Wei moderated the Global South Media Dialogue. Commenting on whether the media should pay more attention to the Global South, Phillips said it is an undeniable responsibility of media professionals. He called for more opportunities for Global South countries to tell their stories.
