Nanjing's pond cypress park dons fiery winter look

As early winter sets in, the Chishan Lake National Wetland Park in Nanjing, east China's Jiangsu Province, transforms into a breathtaking canvas of red and orange hues. Over 50,000 pond cypress trees, or "chishan" in Chinese, have begun shedding their green foliage for vibrant autumnal shades, marking the start of the peak viewing season for visitors.

Situated at the demarcation of Jiangsu and Anhui provinces, the park is home to the largest pond cypress forest in east China. Renowned for their towering, pyramid-shaped crowns and straight trunks with flared bases, the pond cypress trees thrive in water-rich environments.

Their beauty evolves with the seasons, but the transition from lush green to fiery orange and red in autumn and winter is particularly stunning. Against the waters at their roots, these vivid hues have created a picturesque scene ideal for photography enthusiasts.
