China beat France 8-0 at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Mixed Team World Cup in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Saturday, securing their eighth straight win at the tournament.
The hosts picked their ace pair, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha for the mixed doubles match against Audrey Zarif and Esteban Dorr. Wang and Sun eased past them 11-6, 11-8, 11-3 for the hosts to lead 3-0.
The women's world No. 2 Wang Manyu took on Camille Lutz and it did not take her long to drop the French opponent in three games 11-6, 11-2, 11-6.
In the third match of the men's singles, China picked Lin Shidong to play against Thibault Poret. Lin clinched the first game 11-6. Though he faced some resistance in the second, the world No. 2 converted the match point at 10-8, extending the hosts' winning streak.
One day earlier, China beat Japan 8-2 for their seventh straight win. Wang Chuqin and Sun paired for the mixed doubles match against Ryuusei Kawakami and Rin Mende. They claimed the first two games 11-5, 11-3. Though the Japanese pair took the third 11-9, it didn't keep China from leading 2-1.
Wang Manyu played second for China in the women's singles match against Kaho Akae. Wang didn't leave the opponent any chance, sweeping past her quickly 11-7, 11-5, 11-5, extending the hosts' lead to 5-1.
The third match was between Lin and Yuta Tanaka. Lin clinched the first game 11-5, but then faced fierce resistance from the opponent in the second, trailing 10-8. However, the Chinese ace saved two game points and bounced back to take it 12-10.
Tanaka continued to display impressive resilience despite trailing 2-0 in the match. He claimed the third game 11-6, forcing the contest to enter the fourth women's singles match.
Sun and Wang Yidi paired for this battle against Akae and Asuka Sasao when China were leading 7-2 and one game away from victory. Sun and Wang defeated the opponents 11-6 to seal the deal for the hosts.
