Large flocks of avocets, mallards and other migratory birds were recently observed either foraging or flying in unison over Poyang Lake in east China's Jiangxi Province, creating mesmerizing and undulating waves that captivated onlookers.

This breathtaking phenomenon occurs as different species of migratory birds gather and move together in synchronized formations while foraging.

As cold weather sets in, an increasing number of migratory birds flying southward have arrived at Poyang Lake, China's largest freshwater lake.
