Syrian opposition forces freed all prisoners from Sednaya, one of Damascus' largest prisons, on December 9. They claimed to have entered the capital, overthrowing President Bashar al-Assad's 24-year regime and liberating detainees from government jails. Sednaya has long been used to imprison tens of thousands of people who opposed the Syrian government over the decades.
