The Green Miracle: Haba Lake

Sand control is an important task for northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region which was plagued by sandstorms and poverty decades ago. At the Haba Lake National Nature Reserve which is located in Ningxia's Yanchi County, the vibrant and lush scenery today makes it hard to imagine that this area was once dominated by sandstorms and barren landscapes. 80 percent of the county's area was desertified. To improve the condition, the county made a series of efforts and even stopped the traditional Tan sheep breeding industry to recover the plantation. Afforestation and land greening were also big projects that local authorities launched for the ecological restoration. Check out the video to see how this reserve turns into a wildlife paradise from barren land.
