The year 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Gambia. Over the past 50 years, the two countries have deepened cooperation in fields such as trade, culture and education.
China and Gambia established formal diplomatic relations on December 14, 1974, and signed a trade agreement in November 1975. On September 6, 2018, the two countries inked an agreement on cultural cooperation, and in June 2023 they signed a memorandum of understanding on vocational education cooperation.
China is Gambia's largest trading partner. The trade volume between China and Gambia increased from $389 million in 2014 to $514 million in 2023. Last year, China's exports to Gambia, mainly textile raw materials and products, as well as metal products, totaled $475 million. China's imports from Gambia, mainly logs and titanium ore, reached $39 million.
