The long-awaited Beijing Subway Line 3 officially opened on December 15. Beijing's metro network now spans an impressive 879 kilometers, the longest in China. Originally appearing on the city's metro planning map in 1957, Line 3 has finally come to life as a vital new corridor, stretching east to west while seamlessly connecting the north and south.

Here is a selection of photos from CGTN's special series, "People's City, Better Future," offering a closer look at the residents of Beijing.
