Creative online eldercare services help manage communities in N China

02:34

As China's population ages, addressing aging-related challenges and improving eldercare systems have become key components of grassroots governance. In recent years, Haigang District in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, has leveraged a digital platform that provides customized eldercare services to help ensure that community seniors enjoy greater security, convenience, efficiency, and comfort.

Part of the responsibilities of the community staff in a community in Haigang District is visiting elderly residents. Accompanying them are medical staff from the community.

We visited a resident, an old lady who lives alone.

"There are many care activities during the holiday. Every time, they will invite (you) to participate," she said.

This neighborhood is home to over 1,400 elderly residents aged 60 and above, and the number rises yearly. To address their needs, the local government has introduced various facilities and services like canteens and clinics, all connected to online mobile apps, to ensure residents have easy access to these services. The mobile app and hotline provide residents with convenient access to services like emergency medical care, meal ordering and delivery, home maintenance, and medication delivery – all with just a few clicks. The community's management capabilities have also improved as a result. The digital grid management platform and smart eldercare system allow staff to comprehensively understand the individual needs of elderly residents, providing them with personalized attention and services.
