The first stage of the China Table Tennis Super League ended in Changsha on Monday. In one of the spotlight matches, Shanghai's world number six Fan Zhendong beat Shandong's world number one Wang Chuqin 3-1, but Shandong went on to win the tie 3-2 to reach the semifinals.
It was the third encounter between the two players this year with Fan having an upper hand with a 2-1 record. Fan saved three game points before taking the first game 16-14.
World number one Wang fought back by dominating the second game 11-3 to level the match.
But Paris Olympics champion Fan claimed the third 11-7 and then took the fourth 12-10 to secure the 3-1 win, leveling the tie at 1. But Shandong would go on to beat Shanghai 3-2 in the tie to reach the last four.
