Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal was awarded the 2024 Golden Boy trophy following a standout campaign that helped Spain secure the European Championship.

Yamal, who turned 17 the day before the Euro 2024 final, played a crucial role for 'La Roja' as they triumphed with a 2-1 victory over England in the final. The teenager was also named Young Player of the Tournament and claimed the Goal of the Tournament for his strike against France in the semi-final.

Yamal was originally scheduled to travel to Turin to collect the Golden Boy award, but his club announced earlier on Monday that he is expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks due to an ankle injury sustained during Barcelona's 1-0 loss to Leganés at home in La Liga on Sunday.

The 17-year-old expressed his excitement about winning the award: "I'm very happy. In the end, I really feel the affection the fans have for me, and everything that it means to receive awards in front of me makes me very pleased and very happy."
