The Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) unveiled its Global Top 10 Engineering Achievements of 2024 on Wednesday in Beijing, with cutting-edge developments such as CAR-T cell therapy, the Chang'e-6 lunar mission and autonomous vehicles making the list.
Also featured are high-temperature gas-cooled nuclear reactors, surgical robots, flexible displays and a low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation for global communication.
The achievements were selected by CAE's journal, Engineering, through a comprehensive process involving global nominations, expert recommendations, public surveys and review by a selection committee, according to Chen Jianfeng, the secretary-general of the CAE.
"Each of these top 10 accomplishments reflects a significant engineering or technological breakthrough, completed and validated in the last five years," Chen said. They span major projects, key technological innovations and advances in engineering that are expected to guide the future of technology.
Since 2021, Engineering has organized the annual selection to recognize transformative contributions to engineering and technology.
