Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Macau University of Science and Technology on Thursday morning.
President Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, was briefed on the development of two key state-level laboratories in the university – one focused on the quality of traditional Chinese medicine and the other on lunar and planetary science.
He also talked with teachers, students and scientific researchers at the university.
Xi arrived in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Wednesday to attend the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to China, the inauguration of the sixth-term government of the Macao SAR and an inspection tour of the SAR.
At Macau University of Science and Technology, Xi visited a teaching building to learn about the university and the development of higher education in Macao. He expressed his appreciation of Macao's efforts to align education with the economic and social development needs and to promote the concept of "education strengthens Macao, talent builds Macao."

He also listened to an introduction to research on the quality of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Science. He said that TCM is a treasure of Chinese civilization and the inheritance and innovative development of traditional Chinese medicine is of great importance.
Xi further remarked that the achievements of the lunar exploration program embody the wisdom and efforts of generations of Chinese aerospace scientists and engineers.
While visiting the university's library, Xi asked the students about their academic majors, research fields and living conditions. He encouraged them to cherish their time for studying, absorb valuable knowledge, and make good use of online resources as helpful tools for both learning and scientific research.
Xi said he was delighted to see the prosperity of education in Macao, with everyone full of vitality and confidence. He stressed the need to attach strategic importance to education, focus on aligning the discipline system and cultivating high-quality talent with the needs of national and Macao's development.
He expressed hope that the students would set lofty ideals, share the destiny of the motherland, keep pace with the times and realize their life's value.
