Zhongyang papercutting: a 'living fossil' of history

01:29

Papercutting in Zhongyang County, Lyuliang City, north China's Shanxi Province, is known as a "living fossil" of history. Some unearthed stone carvings from the Han Dynasty (202 BC-220) in the region featured papercutting-like patterns, indicating the region's long artistic tradition. Recently, local artists have just created some special works to mark the upcoming Chinese New Year of the Snake, a zodiac sign in traditional Chinese culture.
