On Friday, Ma Ying-jeou, former chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang Party and a group of Taiwan students visited the historical site of Japanese germ-warfare unit 731 during World War II located in Harbin in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province. Ma said that few in the Taiwan region knew about the history and that people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits should work together to restore the historical truth to the public and show the crimes committed by Japan in World War II. He stressed that learning history is to learn lessons and it is the hope for a better future shared by people on both sides of the Straits.
