A car drove into a crowd at a Christmas market in the eastern German city of Magdeburg on Friday, killing five people and injuring more than 200. The suspect, Taleb Jawad al-Abdulmohsen, a 50-year-old Saudi refugee from a Shiite family who had declared himself an atheist and "anti-Islam," was arrested following the attack.

Approximately 2,000 people gathered outside the Magdeburg Cathedral to attend a memorial mass in tribute to the victims. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, dressed in black, on Saturday visited the site of the attack. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier joined the families of the victims and emergency responders at a memorial service at Magdeburg Cathedral.
