American rider Hannah Roberts roared back from a disappointing eighth-place finish at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, clinching her fifth consecutive BMX Freestyle title at the Urban Cycling World Championships in Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, China dominated the rankings to secure the next five spots in the women's final, with Sun Sibei and Fan Xiaotong taking home silver and bronze, respectively.
Roberts set an impressive standard right from the start, scoring 95.70 points on her first run, a total that no other competitor could match. Her second run yielded 94.58 points, which would have also sufficed for victory. The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist has now captured six of seven world titles since BMX Freestyle was introduced at this competition in 2017.
Sun came close, achieving 94.06 points in her first run, but unfortunately fell early in her second attempt, preventing her from improving her score. Paris Olympics champion Deng Yawen and silver medalist Perris Benegas did not take part in the season-ending event in the United Arab Emirates.
