Wang Yi: China ready to work with ROK to ensure stability of global industrial and supply chains

CGTN

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday said China is willing to strengthen coordination with the Republic of Korea (ROK) to jointly maintain the stability of global industrial and supply chains.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during phone talks with Foreign Minister of the ROK Cho Tae-yul at the latter's request.

Despite the rise of trade protectionism and unilateralism, the scale of trade between China and the ROK has continued to expand, and the interests of the two sides are further intertwined, indicating that the two countries have a solid foundation and broad space for economic and trade cooperation, Wang said.

He said China welcomes ROK enterprises to continue entering the Chinese market and expanding their investment in China.

Wang said that China and the ROK are friendly neighbors and important partners, adding with the joint efforts of both sides, China-ROK relations have recently shown a momentum of improvement and development, which is in line with the interests of the two peoples.

The Chinese foreign minister called on the two sides to make good use of dialogue and cooperation mechanisms in various fields, strengthen exchanges at all levels, enhance mutual understanding and mutual trust, and promote the healthy and stable development of the strategic cooperative partnership between the ROK and China.

Stressing that China has noted the recent changes in the ROK's domestic situation, Wang said China adheres to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and believes that the ROK people have the wisdom and ability to deal with domestic issues appropriately.

Cho said the ROK values the current good momentum of bilateral relations and has not changed its stance on promoting the sustainable development of the ROK-China strategic cooperative partnership.

He added that the ROK is willing to strengthen strategic communication with the Chinese side, closely exchange high-level contacts and exchanges in various fields, and take more measures to facilitate people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Noting that the ROK is satisfied with the continuous expansion of ROK-China economic and trade cooperation, Cho said the ROK looks forward to building more mutually beneficial results to inject more momentum for the well-being of the two peoples.

During the phone conversation, the two foreign ministers expressed their belief that China-Japan-ROK cooperation is conducive to the respective development of the three countries and regional peace, stability, and prosperity and will work together to strengthen trilateral cooperation.

The two sides exchanged views on cooperation under multilateral frameworks such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation.

They also exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Wang emphasized that China has consistently advocated the resolution of the Peninsula issue through dialogue and consultation and will continue to play a constructive role in peace and stability on the peninsula.
