Live updates: Rescue underway after Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashes in Kazakhstan

An Azerbaijan Airlines passenger jet flying from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, crashed on Wednesday near Aktau in western Kazakhstan.

According to Russian news agencies, the plane had been rerouted due to heavy fog in Grozny, and the crash was reportedly caused by a collision with a flock of birds.

Initial reports indicate there are survivors, and rescue operations are underway.

Azerbaijan Airlines said there were 67 people on board the crashed plane, including 62 passengers and 5 crew members.
