An Azerbaijan Airlines passenger jet flying from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, crashed on Wednesday near Aktau in western Kazakhstan.
According to Russian news agencies, the plane had been rerouted due to heavy fog in Grozny, and the crash was reportedly caused by a collision with a flock of birds.
Initial reports indicate there are survivors, and rescue operations are underway.
Kazakh media reported that the plane was carrying 62 passengers and five crew members. Azerbaijan Airlines has not yet released an official statement.
