The Chinese Mission to the European Union (EU) on Friday voiced opposition to interference in Hong Kong affairs following comments made by an EU official on social media
A spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the EU said enforcement actions by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's police force against those who have absconded overseas and long engaged in destabilizing activities are in line with the Law on Safeguarding National Security in Hong Kong and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance.
"These are justified actions that meet people's aspirations, and comply with international law and customary practice," the spokesperson said in a statement.
The spokesperson reiterated that Hong Kong is a law-based society where laws must be observed and lawbreakers held accountable, and pointed out that Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs.
The spokesperson urged the EU to abide by international law and the basic norms governing international relations, respect China's sovereignty and Hong Kong's rule of law, and stop emboldening anti-China elements destabilizing Hong Kong.
