Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday sent messages of condolence to South Korea's acting President Choi Sang-mok over the heavy casualties in the crash of a South Korean airplane.

President Xi said he was shocked to learn that a Jeju Air passenger plane crashed, causing heavy casualties.

On behalf of the Chinese government and people, President Xi deeply mourned the victims and offered sincere sympathy to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
