Chinese star sprinter and men's 100m sprint Asian record holder Su Bingtian said he intends to retire after the 15th National Games in November 2025 which will be co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
The 35-year-old said he is currently in good shape and has already resumed training, and wanted to contribute to his hometown and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The veteran from Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, will also target the competition as a good conclusion to his career.
Su was the first Chinese man to reach a men's 100m final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where he ran an Asian record of 9.83 seconds in the semifinals before coming sixth in the final. He missed the 2024 Paris Olympics with injury. Another notable highlight of Su's stellar career was winning the bronze medal in the men's 4x100m relay in Tokyo, which also marked the first medal for the Chinese team in an Olympic sprint event.
