At the Chinese Basketball Association, the Shenzhen Leopards ended the Zhejiang Golden Bulls' impressive ten-game winning streak with a nail-biting 105-102 win on the road on Tuesday.
Despite languishing near the bottom of the standings, Shenzhen displayed remarkable resilience. The tightly contested first quarter ended in a 21-point tie. The second quarter saw Zhejiang trying to find their rhythm, with Wang Zilu's three-pointer giving them a brief 7-point lead.
But Trevor Thompson quickly turned the tide for Shenzhen. After a brilliant solo run from Sonny Weems, Thompson powered through double coverage to score under the basket. The American then showcased his nimble footwork to add more points. By halftime, Shenzhen widened the gap to 14 points.
After the interval, Zhejiang launched a fierce comeback, spearheaded by Gabe York, who made a decisive drive to the basket that cut Shenzhen's lead to 6 points.
With just 12.3 seconds remaining, the former Indiana Pacers star hit a sensational three-pointer, narrowing the deficit to only two points. Despite York's last-gasp three, the visitor successfully halted Zhejiang's winning streak.
In other action, the Fujian Sturgeons ended their 15-game losing streak after beating the Jiangsu Dragons at home.
Both teams struggled this season. Bottom side Fujian went in with only one win out of 23 games, while Jiangsu were only one place above them with a poor run of 3-21. But Fujian had three players including Zou Yang and Zeng Lingxuan who scored above 20 points to help the team clinch a 103-96 win.
Jiangsu opened the game with a 11-2 run, and led by seven points after the first quarter. Fujian reduced the deficit quickly, but Jiangsu still managed to maintain the lead at halftime. Young players Zou and Zeng led Fujian to overtake Jiangsu by three points before the last quarter. Zou scored five points in a row to expand the gap to 11 points. His side maintained the lead till the end to win their second game of the season.
