China sent a flight carrying essential supplies including tents, folding beds, emergency food and medical materials to support Vanuatu's local relief efforts. The Chinese embassy in Vanuatu held a handover ceremony for the supplies at the airport. Additionally, China sent four engineering experts to assist with post-earthquake responses at the request of the Vanuatu government. A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck Port Vila on December 17, causing casualties and significant damage.
