Petra Sorling, president of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), sat down with CGTN Sports Scene's Zhu Mandan for a review of the highlights of the sport in 2024.
During one of the busiest table tennis years in 2024, the ITTF brought a series of remarkable competitions, including the World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals and the table tennis events at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games and the Mixed Team World Cup, to audiences all over the globe.
Sorling believes that table tennis gained real momentum after the Paris Olympics and that the Mixed Team World Cup in Chengdu, which introduced a new format of competition, displayed the possibilities of team collaboration.
The ITTF boss pointed out that China, as one of the world heavyweights in table tennis, has been a frontrunner in gender equality, and that superstars like Sun Yingsha have played pivitol roles in the development of the sport.
