The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) is taking multiple measures to ensure safe operations of airlines amid widespread attention to civil aviation safety caused by major safety incidents involving Azerbaijan Airlines and Jeju Air of the Republic of Korea, an official said on Friday at a press conference.
Shu Mingjiang, director of aviation safety at the CAAC, said at the conference that the CAAC has consistently conducted safety risk assessments and investigations for flight operations in accordance with Chinese civil aviation laws and regulations, as well as relevant international civil aviation requirements.
Following the aforementioned civil aviation safety incidents, the CAAC has undertaken the following key measures:
First, the CAAC promptly convened a special meeting to communicate information regarding the incidents, closely monitor the progress of accident investigations and cause analyses, enhance awareness of potential risks and maintain a problem-oriented approach.
Second, the CAAC has strengthened targeted and effective measures for preventing bird strike risks, further emphasizing the primary responsibility of airports. The administration urges all airports to accurately assess the migratory patterns of birds during the winter season and enhance bird dispersal efforts in and around airports. The administration further emphasizes the use of technological means to improve accuracy in the prevention of bird strike.
Third, the CAAC is conducting a comprehensive investigation of runway safety hazards to effectively prevent related safety risks.
Fourth, the CAAC is strengthening emergency drills to further improve emergency response efficiency. The administration will urge relevant units to strengthen emergency training and improve drill standards to ensure preparedness.
Fifth, the CAAC will comprehensively carry out special safety supervision and inspection for the Spring Festival period to promptly eliminate various safety hazards.
