Smart pig farms and 'circular economy'

01:14

Rows of tall buildings are home to pigs of various ages. Designed specifically for pig farming, this facility breeds and raises 2.1 million pigs annually. Each building and unit is independent, which significantly enhances disease prevention and control by reducing the risk of transmission. With 85,000 intelligent devices deployed across the complex, efficiency has greatly improved. Each unit houses over 600 piglets, monitored by intelligent systems for environmental control, feeding and inspection, ensuring 24-hour health management. The "machine nanny" system includes 3D cameras and infrared sensors to monitor pig posture and temperature. Data collected by these systems is integrated with big data analytics, allowing staff to monitor and manage operations via mobile devices, even remotely. Pigs' liquid waste undergoes anaerobic fermentation, deodorization and recycling, while solid waste is sterilized and turned into organic fertilizer for greenhouse vegetables.
