Guo Jiakun, the newly appointed spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, made debut at his first press conference in Beijing on Monday.

Born in 1980, Guo is now the 35th spokesperson for the ministry.

The Foreign Ministry officially established its spokesperson system in 1983, becoming the first government department in China to do so.

The system has operated uninterrupted for 42 years, evolving to be more systematic, standardized and efficient, according to Xinhua.

Notably, the Foreign Ministry remains the only government department in China to hold regular press conferences every working day.

Their efforts are consistently aimed at safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and dignity, while also enhancing the understanding of China's diplomacy both domestically and internationally, and fostering friendly cooperation between China and other countries.

The Foreign Ministry's spokesperson system has developed in tandem with China's deepening reforms and opening up policy. It aligns with the evolving global trends, the development trajectory of China's international relations, and the growing need for mutual understanding between China and the rest of the world.
