Graphics: China-Republic of Congo relations get new momentum

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi began his Africa visit on Sunday, continuing the 35-year tradition of Chinese foreign ministers starting the year with a trip to the continent. This practice underscores China's enduring commitment to strengthening its ties with the continent.

From January 5 to 11, Wang Yi is scheduled to visit four countries, including the Republic of the Congo.

The 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the Republic of the Congo was marked in 2024. Bilateral trade reached $6.57 billion in 2022, the most recent year figures are available for, reflecting a 22 percent year-on-year increase. The relationship reached new heights in 2024 with the signing of a cooperation plan to jointly advance the Belt and Road Initiative. This builds on a memorandum of understanding signed in 2018, solidifying a deep and strategic partnership.
