The Mount Qomolangma scenic area has been closed until further notice after a magnitude-6.8 earthquake jolted Dingri County in Xizang Autonomous Region on Tuesday morning, local authorities said.
Dingri is home to the base camp of the world's highest peak. Fifty-three people have been confirmed dead and 62 injured as a result of the earthquake, according to the regional disaster relief headquarters.
