The death toll from a magnitude-6.8 earthquake that jolted Dingri County in the city of Xigaze in Xizang Autonomous Region at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday had risen to 53 by noon.

Another 62 people were injured, according to the local earthquake relief headquarters.
