Chinese shuttlers kicked off the first day of the Malaysia Open, advancing in several events at the Axiata Arena on Tuesday.
In the men's singles, World No. 1 Shi Yuqi overpowered Japan's Kenta Nishimoto 21-16, 20-22, 21-16, while Lu Guangzu defeated Malaysia's Leong Jun Hao 21-17, 16-21, 21-13.
Chinese men's doubles pair Chen Boyang and Liu Yi rolled over Thailand's Peeratchai Sukphun and Pakkapon Teeraratsakul 21-11, 17-21, 21-18, while mixed doubles pair Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping easily outplayed Gregory Mairs and Jenny Mairs of Britain 21-17, 21-12.
Top-seeded women's doubles pair Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning as well as their teammates Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian also advanced into next round with ease. Liu and Tan beat Julie Finne-Ipsen and Mai Surrow of Denmark 21-10, 21-10. Jia and Zhang knocked out home pair Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing 21-17, 21-10.
Lei Lanxi, He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu failed to progress as their compatriots did. Lei lost to Yushi Tanaka of Japan 21-19, 16-21, 13-21 in men's singles. He and Ren were eliminated by Ben Lane and Sean Vendy of England 21-23, 21-19, 11-21 in the first round of men's doubles.
