Chinese actor Wang Xing has reportedly been rescued after being lured to Thailand by scam artists and subsequently being kidnapped and taken to Myanmar. Franc Han Shih with Thai PBS reports from Bangkok. 

FRANC HAN SHIH Bangkok "The story of the actor, Wang Xing, has sparked discussions here in Thailand. Local media provided almost hourly updates on his situation, and we are relieved that he can return home, thanks to the cooperation between Thai authorities and the Embassy of China in Bangkok.

Here's a quick recap.

The story began to surface in Thailand around 10 am yesterday, 4 days after the actor arrived in Thailand and subsequently went missing.

Thai police went to pick him up in the KNA controlled area in Myanmar, and he was later accompanied by the police back to Bangkok.

Here is what the actor said to the media last night."

WANG XING Chinese Actor "I'm grateful to the Thai government and the local immigration authorities for bringing me back here safely."

So what do we know so far? He reportedly was tricked by a scammer on WeChat to travel from Shanghai to Thailand for a casting with a big entertainment studio here.

Once arrived in Bangkok, he got into a hired car which took him to a shopping mall in Mae Sot. Then he got into a pickup truck which drove him to the border.

According to Tak Provincial Police, he crossed into Myanmar in a boat, and there was no record of him going through the immigration checkpoint at the border.

Wang Xing said he "realized he was tricked when they took him across the border, but did not dare to resist".

The actor was led to a KNA-controlled area, reportedly the location of the KK Park. If you search the name online, you'll find information connecting the KK Park to scammers.

So from now on, Wang Xing will be processed according to the National Referral Mechanism which is a framework for identifying and supporting victims of modern slavery.
